Walker Bay Nature Reserve

Overberg

The Walker Bay Nature Reserve is located just east of Hermanus and includes 5 coastal areas stretching between Hermanus and Die Dam in Struisbaai.

This picturesque reserve has white sandy beaches, an abundance of coastal and marine life and it is known as one of the best places in South Africa to experience land-based whale watching. The scenic Klein River Lagoon lies to the north-west of the reserve and flows into the sea at times. Evidence has been found proving that Khoi San lived here approximately 2000 years ago. Further towards Gansbaai, the Klipgat caves offer spectacular views as well as being a site of great historical interest

Other activities to enjoy here include angling, swimming, hiking and picnics. Access to the reserve is via the fishing trail at Stanford, at De Kelders and Uilkraalsmond.

Open daily from 07h00 to 19h00.
